Who is Neotonus Inc.?
Neotonus Inc., based in Marietta, Ga., is a venture-funded
corporation whose mission is to provide cost-effective, non-invasive
healthcare solutions to treat neuromuscular disorders, including
disorders of the pelvic floor and muscle and joint disorders
in extremities.
What technology does Neotonus use to accomplish its mission?
Neotonus holds numerous patents for medical applications of its Extracorporeal Magnetic
Innervation (ExMI) technology. ExMI technology, an elegant application of
the principle of magnetic induction, works by producing a highly focused time-varying
(pulsed) magnetic field that penetrates deep into a targeted region of the body to
painlessly stimulate nerve activity in the region.
Why did Neotonus choose to address the treatment of neuromuscular
disorders? Neotonus chose to focus on neuromuscular disorders
because the nature of ExMI makes it particularly well-suited
to treating these types of disorders and because there are
currently few good treatment options available. Initially,
Neotonus focused its attention on urinary incontinence as
traditional incontinence therapies address symptoms rather
than the underlying cause of the incontinence.
What Neotonus products currently utilize ExMI?
The first Neotonus product to employ ExMI technology in a clinical setting is the
NeoControl Pelvic
Floor Therapy System, which is used to treat stress, urge and mixed urinary incontinence in females.
NeoControl provides an effective, painless and non-invasive alternative to other incontinence treatment
options, such as surgery or drugs, which are often ineffective and involve lengthy recovery
periods or unpleasant side effects. The second ExMI-based product is the NeoTone
System, available in handheld (PRO) and stationary table unit (PRO-Plus)
configurations
